Eyelash Extension Frequently Asked Questions

What are eyelash extensions?

Eyelash extensions are semi-permanent eyelashes made of synthetic hair that are curved to replicate a natural lash. Different thicknesses and lengths can be applied to the lashes to create a customized look.

What is the difference between Classic, Mixed and Volume Lashes?

Classic Extensions: Lashes are applied in the ratio of one lash extension per one natural lash. Classic extensions are ideal for clients wanting a more natural look. *Classic extensions are not recomended for client with sparse lashes.
Classic/Volume Mixed Extensions: Lashes are applied in the ratio of half classic and half volume extensions, giving the appearance of a more whispy look. Mixed extensions are ideal for clients wanting a slightly fuller look.
Volume Extensions: Lashes are applied in the ratio of 2 or more lash extensions per one natural lash in the form of a fan, giving the appearance of fluffier, softer lashes. Volume extensions are ideal for clients  wanting a more full, dramatic look.

What is the procedure and how are they applied?

Each appointment starts with a thorough consultation, and time to discuss which style of lashes you would like. After cleaning and priming the lashes, your bottom eyelashes are protected with an eyepatch or with medical grade tape - both of which is safe for sensitive skin. The extensions are applied one at a time to your own natural lashes for an elegant look. It's a very relaxing, comfortable, non-invasive procedure and most clients fall asleep. Go ahead and take a beauty nap and wake up with gorgeous lashes!

How long does the procedure take?

Depending on how many natural lashes you have and how many lashes are being applied, it can take between 80 to 180 minutes to apply a full set. Fills can be done in as little as 45 to 90 minutes.

How often should I get a fill?

With proper care and maintenance, eyelash fills are typically needed once every 2 to 3 weeks to replace the lashes that have shed. If you wait too long, and there is less than 50% of eyelash extensions left after removal of grown out lashes, you will require a full set.

Will eyelash extensions be harmful to my natural lashes?

Not at all! Eyelash extensions are applied to your natural lashes one by one, and will shed with the natural growth cycle of your own lashes. Natural eyelashes grow in and fall out in a cycle of every 60 to 90 days. When a natural lash matures and falls out, a new lash has already been growing and quickly replaces it.EndFragment HOWEVER, there are some ways that can cause damage to your lashes:
  • If you are constantly rubbing or pulling at your lashes
  • Poor Hygiene -  not cleansing or brushing the eyelashes daily can cause product and dead skin build up at the base of the lashes.
  • Through incorrect application from the lash stylist - Do your research before getting them done!

Can I wear mascara or eyeliner with eyelash extensions?

Yes, as long as the mascara is water based. Mascara is NOT recomended for Volume Lashes because it will clump your volume fans together. For eyeliner, make sure it is not waterproof and does not contain oils (cream, or gel eyeliners). Liquid eyeliner or felt tip  is recomended.

How to care for your lashes

  • Do not wet your lashes for the amount of time recommended by your lash stylist. Depending on the type of adhesive used, times may vary.
  • Avoid rubbing your eyes or pulling on your lashes! This may cause your lashes to come out prematurely, and in extreme cases rubbing or pulling can cause permanent damage.
  • Avoid excess swimming, steam rooms and humidity. Too much moisture can break down the glue and shorten the longevity of your eyelash extensions .
  • Make sure to thoroughly cleanse the lashes using an oil-free makeup remover or cleanser, and brush daily to prevent product abuildup.
  • If applying mascara (water based), do so from middle to tip and avoid applying to the base of the lashes.
  • Do not use a mechanical eyelash curler while wearing lash extensions.

Helpful Tips:

  • Use an angled makeup brush to get closest to the lash base and to cleanse the lashes.
  • Comb through lashes with a spoolie at least once a day to sparate and dislodge lose lashes.
  • Using a facial sponge will make cleansing the skin easier by decreasing the chances of water displacing the eyelash extensions.
  • For side sleepers: The use of a contoured eye mask will aid in putting less presure on the lashes while you sleep, which will help keep your lash extensions on longer.
